The Vienna series of six exhibitions included ‘Continental Britons’ featuring Hans Gal and Egon Wellesz; Franz Schreker; Erich Korngold; other refugees to Hollywood such as Erich Zeisl; Hanns Eisler; and Ernst Toch. These exhibitions were highly influential in Vienna as music by all these composers was performed by Austrian orchestras and soloists and on Austrian radio. For Michael the satisfaction was to see their original homelands once more embracing their composers and their music. Michael received the highest cultural award from the City of Vienna for his work. This was celebrated in London at an evening hosted by Lady Solti in May 2009 at which Barry Humphries launched ‘The Spoli Fund’ a fundraising vehicle raising money for Suppressed Music.
