ICSM organised a conference together with Salzburg University in 2006 on ‘Music and Resistance’ – when Sir Simon Rattle included some of the music of suppressed composers at the Salzburg Easter Festival. Also when the Royal Conservatory of Music of Canada was coming to present two days of concerts of Exile Music at the Cadogan Hall in London in April 2008 with invited speakers, ICSM initiated a well-attended four day international conference associated with this, “Music, Oppression and Exile: The Impact of Nazism on 20th Century Musical Development” for mutual benefit. It was run by ICSM in association with the Royal Conservatory of Canada and with the Institute of Musical Research at Senate House, University of London and included many of our European partners. The papers are being published in English by Boehlau publishers in Vienna. You can read about this here.
